Did I go over a month without posting a single thing here?  Yes, yes I did.  But I have really good excuses.  I’ll tell you all about them:

I moved to a new place!  The old place had charm, but it also had vermin-friends living in the ceiling/walls and an asshole landlord.  C’est la vie.  My new place has AMENITIES, not the least of which is a jacuzzi tub(!!!).  Unpacking has been slow and painful since the new place has a fraction of the storage space the old place did, but the end is in sight.  Regardless, the packing/moving/unpacking has been keeping me very occupied (not to mention those pesky jobs eating up my blogging time).  More photos to come as the place comes together.

Besides the move I’ve managed to take some photos here and there of other activities that are not blog-updation:

Also, I’ve been working on an illustration, it’s not finished yet but here’s a little piece of the puzzle:

Eat your hearts out,

I love growing plants, you guys.  Some folk buy lots of shoes or bull whips or pets; I buy plants.  I have a whole gaggle of house plants in my apartment and window space is sparse so I picked up an old, ugly (yet functional) plant stand at a vintage market last fall. You can see it in action here.  I have had intentions to beautify it from the beginning but only got around to it last week.

Tools -

  • Spray paint – I used a yellow gloss
  • Interior satin – in a creamy matte to contrast with the glossy yellow
  • Paint brushes for detail work
  • Tape and newspaper for paint control

It took about 6 coats of yellow spray paint to achieve a uniform color.  Then a little patience and a steady hand for the trim.  I think the cream trim is adorable.  The whole thing came out Pleasentville as hell.  I really like the results.

Eat your hearts out,

Things have been not going my way lately. Namely a week ago my hard drive crashed.  You may recall me mentioning a hard drive replacement would be my next d.i.y macbook repair here.  Well, I let that get away from me and regret to inform you, dear reader, that I have lost some serious data.  Sads.  Among said lost data is the photographs of March’s Produce of the month (Asian pear, not my fav) so please excuse me for not giving it it’s own post.

Hardrdive Fail was then joined by Subaru Fail (the more staggering monetarily of the fails) which involves the rebuilding of my engine ($$$$).  That said, I’ll be going out less, working more, and maybe blogging more?(!?!?)  I’m really into the parenthetical today, eh?  Regardless, I’m trying to keep an air of serenity in the face of loss because that’s really all I can do.  Besides, I’m pretty sure acceptance is one of the final stages of grief, right?

Insert uplifting photograph here:

Thanks for stopping by to eat your heart out,

I said I would post photos of food items cooked over the course of “Eat-in January” and since I’m a woman of my word, I give you highlights to feed your food porn addiction, you dirty bird:

Kale Hash: packed full of all the tasty bits your body needs + your taste buds will sing in delight

Pizza from scratch:  this is a very rewarding dish, you’ll feel like a million bucks when it tastes like a million bucks.  I followed this recipe for the crust.  BTW, less is more when it comes to sauce.

Huevos Rancheros:  Easy breakfast you can throw together in minutes.  We always have black beans on hand for huevos emergencies.

Steak and Vegetable Pie:  Holy fuck, this was AMAZING.  I very loosely followed this recipe.  Threw in dried herbs as I pleased and the result was such a delight.

Taco customizables for our “walking tacos” party.  If you are unfamiliar with the ambulatory taco, it might be for the best, but if you’d like to learn more click here.

Fun Fact: Arthur Bryant’s delicious meat candy was our first venture back out into the wild and untamed restaurant world.  Noms.

Eat your hearts out babies,

It’s that time again, squirrels, the death rattles of 2010 are intensifying, inspiring humans everywhere to reminisce upon another year passed.  I found 2010 to be pretty even keel, not too whirlwind crazy, not too deathly boring.  I did the best job of pretending to be a grown-up to date.  It was a year of making commitments to myself and actually keeping a small amount of them.  And probably (hopefully?) more personal growth than I realize. Oh, shit you guys!  It’s Memory lane; stroll with me, won’t you?

For starters I began this here blog.  I cut off my man friend’s enormous dread locks, cooked some amazing foods, bleached my hair with pretty decent success, started caring about art again.

I made a pilgrimage to The House on the Rock, rubbed my Kansas City stench all over Madison, Wisconson and Davenport, Iowa.

I buzzed my own hair into a mohawk, went to some amazing shows, shacked up with my man friend at the Shangri-Lounge, began documenting my style when I felt it was exceptional.

Spent a weekend at the Lake of the Ozarks pushing my body to the limits and exploring ruins and caverns.

2011′s to-do list:

  • Travel more
  • Be less of a bloody homebody
  • Exit my comfort zone at least once a week
  • Try a new type of produce a least once a month
  • Eat in the ENTIRE month of January
  • Buy less
  • Purge the unneeded
  • Redesign this here Fancy Blog
  • Put the shoulder to the wheel and take 2011 by the balls

ANYHOW, I’ve got a NYE party to plan, sooooo… See you on the other side and don’t forget to eat your hearts out,
